The Abu Dhabi United Group is owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the UAE Royal Family and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Contrary to initial news reports, it is not owned by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
The Abu Dhabi United Group came into news prominence in the United Kingdom, and throughout the world of football, globally, when it bought leading English Premiership football club, Manchester City Football Club.
The deal was completed at the fantastically luxurious Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi, on Monday September 1st 2008.
In fact, it was struck late on Sunday night between the club's former owner, Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand and Abu Dhabi United Group, who were represented by the US educated Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, who is sometimes referred to in the Press as the "Donald Trump of Abu Dhabi".
Dr Al-Fahim is expected to sit on the Manchester City board.
Immediately after ADUG took over, they financed the purchase of world superstar Robinho for a British record fee of £32.5 million! What a coup for brilliant new Manchester City manager Mark Hughes!!
Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim is certainly an astute businessman.
He was born in 1977 in Dubai and showed business acumen from a very early age. He was even investing in shares at 14 years of age with his late mother's blessing and using her name to make the deals legitimate.
At 18 years of age, he founded the Sulaiman Al Fahim Group, which finances education and sports in the UAE. Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim has always been a genuine sports enthusiast, especially of football or soccer.
Very tragically, in 1998 he lost both his parents and younger brother in a fatal road traffic accident near Dubai Airport.
Following the sad loss of his immediate family he moved to the USA to study at university. There, he received his PhD in Real Estate investment and an MBA in Finance and Real Estate from Kogod School of Business, from the American University in Washington DC.
Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim is also CEO of Hydra Properties, a UAE real estate company, founded in 2005.
Hydra Properties has superb, high-quality ongoing major projects, currently in construction on Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi plus at other locations in the Emirate.
They also have major ongoing developments at Mazatlan, Mexico and in Dubai in the UAE. Hydra Properties are notable for their superb innovative architectural style.
Hydra Towers in the Business Bay of Dubai and Downtown Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road in the commercial centre of Dubai are wonderful examples of this innovative style. So are the Marine Spirit Towers and Hydra Village, both in Abu Dhabi.
Dr Al-Fahim is also founder and host of the business-themed reality TV show, Hydra Executives, which was launched in Spring 2008. This will be televised from mid-October 2008 on Real Estate TV in the UK and Ireland, found on Sky Channel 262. It will also be on VOD via www.realestatetv.tv.
Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim is a keen chess player, having represented his country as a youth. He is currently President of the UAE Chess Association.
Through Hydra Properties, he is involved in sponsorship of Dubai sports television, a Costa Rican soccer team and the German Bundesliga.
He is building a new football academy in Abu Dhabi with Italian football giants, Internazionale. He is a big fan of Al Ain and Al Jazeera in Abu Dhabi.
He was awarded the Visionary Award at the Middle East CEO Awards in 2007.
Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim has a wife, Dhabya, whom he married in June 2003. We wish them every success and happiness.
